Dr Michael Galante has been appointed as Malaysia Country Coordinator to USAID Green Invest Asia. Following his long-standing status of living and working in Malaysia, Dr Galante has been engaged to help develop a pipeline of investment opportunities that focus on responsible and sustainable forest management activities in Malaysia. These project-based activities include natural forest management, plantation establishment, community forestry and Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR). The work aims to build a community of practice in sustainable landscape finance and tackle systemic issues that block the development and financing of low-emission land use management. All projects aim be developed to the highest code of practice with a focus on certification through Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS), which is accredited to the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
